Decimator

Type: Dashboard Widget
Current Version: 1.5
Requirements: MacOS 10.4 "Tiger"
Downloads (this version): 7342

Description: Many a designer, engineer and layout artist has had a strip of paper taped to the side of their monitor showing the fraction to decimal conversions for various parts of an inch (who can remember what 9/32 of an inch is?). This widget moves that breakdown to your Dashboard and improves on it. Now, a click on the measurement you are interested in will copy the decimal value to your clipboard for easy insertion into whatever program you happen to be using. Handy!

What's New: Decimator now sports a handy expand/collapse feature to stay out of the way when not needed.

Known Issues: Apparently, Adobe InDesign CS (but not CS2) has some sort of problem dealing with the clipboard, thus rendering this widget only partially useful. The report is that the first amount clicked on copies and pastes correctly, but future attempts are futile. I'm looking into it, but if anyone knows more about this issue and can suggest a fix, please let me know using the email link above. (Thanks, Erica)

Feedback:

"Your Decimator is the best thing since sliced bread (better actually, I prefer slicing my own!)." -Shelley

"...your widget is great!. It is now one of my top 2 or 3 widgets that I use everyday." -Steve

"I've never been happier with a widget. Thanks for creating Decimator." -Jeff

"I just wanted to let you know that I LOVE your Decimator 1.0 widget. As a
print production manager, I deal with both graphic designers and printers
that require me to convert fractions and decimals quickly and accurately on
a regular basis.

Thanks for making something so simple and so useful! It truly mirrors what
an Apple product should represent." -Melinda

Copy+Move

Type: Automator Actions
Current Version: 1.0 (initial release)
Requirements: MacOS 10.4 "Tiger"
Downloads (this version): 1542

Description: Using the "Copy To..." and "Move To..." v1.0 applescripts written by Nicholas J. Schneble (available here), these actions allow you to select items in the Finder and copy or move (depending on which action you choose) them to a new location of your choice. There is a bug in the "Move To..." action that occasionally flashes an error message, but it doesn't seem to affect performance and the message disappears as quickly as it comes. I don't know what the problem is and, as long as the action works like it's supposed to, I don't much care. Use in "Finder Plugin" mode – install by double-clicking the included applescript. Thanks Nick!

File Mover

Type: Automator Action
Current Version: 1.0 (initial release)
Requirements: MacOS 10.4 "Tiger"
Downloads (this version): 1415

Description: Using built-in Automator steps, this action takes a selected file(s) or folder(s) and shuttles it off to your "Documents" folder, automatically replacing existing files. Open it up in Automator to tweak the location and overwrite options. Use in "Finder Plugin" mode – install by double-clicking the included applescript.

Quick Burn

Type: Automator Action
Current Version: 1.0 (initial release)
Requirements: MacOS 10.4 "Tiger"
Downloads (this version): 1506

Description: Using built-in Automator steps, this action takes a selected file(s) or folder(s) and burns a CD of it/them using the disc name "CD<<DATE>>". This theoretically should work for DVDs as well, but I haven't tested it in this use (You'll probably want to edit the action and change the "CD" to "DVD" in the naming field). Good for quickie burns. The resulting CDs appear to be readable on PCs as well, with none of the extra stuff like .DS_Store and resource forks. Use in "Finder Plugin" mode – install by double-clicking the included applescript.

More Word Caps

Type: Applescript
Current Version: 2.6.1 (initial release)
Requirements: iTunes v4 or higher, Mac OS X
Downloads (this version): 1536

Description: Using Doug Adams' "Track Names to Word Caps" v2.6.1 applescript (available here), I tweaked a couple of variables and such and now you can word cap the artist or album names. Copy these to your iTunes Scripts folder. Thanks Doug!
